Subject: Important Information for Graduate Students Writing Theses & Dissertations

Please share the information below with your students.

Best,

Susan

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings, and welcome to the Fall 2022 Semester!
We at University Dissertation & Thesis Services (UDTS<https://library.gmu.edu/udts>) assist Mason's Master's and Doctoral students who are writing theses and dissertations. We perform Format Reviews<https://library.gmu.edu/udts/process#step2>, accept Final Submission<https://library.gmu.edu/udts/process#step5> materials, and upload materials to our Institutional Repository, MARS<http://mars.gmu.edu/>.
If you are writing a thesis or dissertation and you are planning to graduate in Fall 2022, please be aware of the following extremely important deadlines:
Format Review Deadline: In order to be eligible to graduate in Fall 2022, you must receive an email from our office on or by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28 stating that your formatting is in good shape, and your Format Review is over. If you do not receive said email from our office on or by that date/time, then you will not be eligible to graduate in Fall 2022.
Final Submission Deadline: In order to remain eligible to graduate in Fall 2022, you must turn in the final copy of your thesis/dissertation and all necessary paperwork<https://library.gmu.edu/udts/process#step5> to our office on or by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2. If we do not receive these materials on or by that date/time, then you will graduate in Spring 2023 at the very earliest.
When we refer to the "final copy" of your thesis/dissertation, we mean the version of your document that fulfills all three of the following criteria:
  1.  You have passed the Format Review.
  2.  You have successfully defended (if a defense is part of your program).
  3.  Your committee has approved your content.
Once you have fulfilled all three of those criteria, you will be ready to turn in the final copy of your document to our office.
Among our resources, we offer workshops<https://library.gmu.edu/workshops>. Our Process workshop walks you through the steps you need to complete in order to format your document, submit it, and graduate on time. Our Interactive Template<https://library.gmu.edu/udts/resources#templates> workshop introduces you to the Word document we created in an effort to make formatting your document easier. It is set up according to University Formatting Guidelines<https://library.gmu.edu/udts/resources#guidelines>.
If you have any questions or need any further information, please contact us. Email is always the best way to reach us: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
