Good afternoon CS/ACS students,
Dr. Theodore Dumas and team are interested in hiring an undergraduate/masters student for a research project that lies at the intersection of Psychology and Computing.
Increased longevity in humans across the last century is not without consequences and often cognitive failure is observed in senescence. Cognitive failure in aging can be predicted by behavioral anomalies in midlife. One early marker is an impairment in spatial navigation. Navigation impairments can be observed after a person's normal navigation behavior is mapped. We are creating a spatial navigation app (Spatial Trajectory Evaluation and Maintenance, STEM) that initially collects user navigation information uses AI to calculate a navigation "fingerprint." Once a fingerprint is established for the subject, deviations from the fingerprint can be observed and the subject can be queried to define the reason for the deviation. This approach will allow for early identification of spatial navigation impairments that may be used for population analyses and personalized therapy.
We are seeking a dedicated and talented CS student to help build and test this app. If interested, please send CV to Dr. Ted Dumas at Theodore C Dumas [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
Best,
