Good afternoon, CGE listserv members. We hope your summer is off to a wonderful start. The next time you're on facebook please take a moment to like our new page-- we need more likes! Last week we surpassed 500 followers on twitter, so thank you for your sustained interest in and support for George Mason Study Abroad.

WHAT'S NEW

Check out our latest youtube video on Jade's experience studying Spanish abroad in Ecuador.

Speaking of youtube, our Winter Break 2013 Study Abroad Programs Preview changed places. Please refer to this new link to watch the video again or see it for the first time above a list of our programs at http://globaled.gmu.edu/programs/facultyled/winterstudy/index.html.

Scholarships and financial aid are available for all winter break programs. A special CONGRATS to our recent scholarship recipients as this summer more than 50 Mason students will receive funding for their studies abroad! The attached PDF lists who they are, where they're going, and what they'll be studying while abroad.
CGE's Spring Break 2013 program in Sicily now has a web page and is currently accepting online registrations. The program will be led by popular faculty member Dr. Larry Butler from Mason's department of History and Art History, who is not only an expert on Mediterranean Art but also has extensive experience leading these kinds of programs. Dr. Butler most recently led our spring break 2011 program to Turkey and received nothing but rave reviews.

We anticipate seats will go very fast, especially at that ~$2800 cost, so the most important thing is to make the $500 deposit asap to secure a spot. The hotels for the program are top-notch, so we've linked to them at the bottom of the website and as you can see, the authentic Sicilian cuisine and beautiful scenery should make for quite a wonderful spring break abroad!

INFORMATION SESSION

Our Brazil Internships Info Session is TOMORROW at 3:00 pm in the Johnson Center, Room F. A 15-credit semester internship for less than $8000 that includes housing and two meals a day, CGE's Brazil internship program is an affordable study abroad option for students from any major. Gilberto de Olivera Souza, Academic Coordinator of Postgraduate Courses at FAE Universitario in Curitiba, Brazil, will be on the Mason campus tomorrow to discuss with interested students unique opportunities for spring and summer 2013 internship placements in Brazil. Past, current and prospective internship program participants are all invited to attend! Contact Gregory Seiler at (703) 993-2641 for details.

SAVE THE DATES

On Monday, August 27, 2012, the 5th Annual CGE Study Abroad Photo Contest will kickoff in the Johnson Center, Gallery 123. An official Welcome Week Event, last year more than 100 people attended. Please come early to enjoy the free food before it's gone. You'll also have an opportunity to meet study abroad alumni and cast your vote for your favorite study abroad photos! Immediately following the contest kickoff will be an International Career Panel from 7 to 8 p.m. in a location on campus TBD. The goal of the panel is to give you access to local professionals who will share with you the connection they see between study abroad and their successful international careers. Potential panelists include a former ambassador, an agent with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and a representative from the Peace Corps.

On Thursday, September 20, 2012, CGE's Study Abroad Fair will take place in the Johnson Center.

On Tuesday, November 13, 2012 the Inaugural Student Summit on Global Education will also take place in the Johnson Center on Tuesday November 13, 2012. More details coming soon.

We know the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend is a popular time for people to spend with their families and make future travel plans, so please safely enjoy the long holiday weekend and stay in touch!

Sincerely,
Kevin Stoy
