New Century College Becomes School of Integrative Studies on May 1st
[cid:imageid8]
George Mason University’s New Century College will be known by its new name, the School of Integrative Studies, beginning May 1. The name change was approved in late 2015 by George Mason’s Board of Visitors, said Kelly Dunne, the interim associate dean of the college. The State Council of Higher Education of Virginia approved the change this week.
The School of Integrative Studies will remain closely aligned with New Century College’s original mission to provide a robust, liberal arts-based education emphasizing integrative, experiential learning, according to an article on the college's website.<http://ncc.gmu.edu/articles/8969?_ga=1.243326597.1439149185.1452612232>

The Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Office is pleased to announce our 2nd annual Somatic Leadership Institute specifically designed for Mason. We hope you will join us for this incredible experience. The Somatic Leadership Institute is a unique and engaging leadership experience where participants will be able to challenge their own leadership style and presence. The program is based on the idea that leadership does not require a formal position. There is a special focus on how leadership is not merely from the “neck up”, but can be viewed from a more holistic perspective where participants will focus on how they lead with their body, their mind, and their spirit. Black/African Heritage Month 2016
The 2016 Black/African Heritage Month is underway!
The United States has recognized black history annually beginning in 1926, first as “Negro History Week” and has officially been celebrated as “Black History Month” since 1976. Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the founder, created the week initially in honor of Frederick Douglass’ and Abraham Lincoln’s birthdays which were in February. Mason has continued the legacy of Dr. Woodson’s initiatives and holds several Black History Month events that are both educational, inspirational, and inclusive of the entire Mason Nation!
