Speaker: Dr. Fatah Kashanchi, Director of Research for the Biomedical Research Laboratory and Professor of Microbiology
Title: Extracellular Vesicles allow communication between cells and organs.
Description: We will describe the effect of extracellular vesicles (i.e., exosomes) and how they control fate of neighboring cells. General descriptions will be based on donor cells as well as recipient cells that receive the exosomes. We will use examples of virally infected cells that are either latent or have been treated with antiviral drugs and how they secrete and communicate these exosomes to the uninfected cells and organs. In that effect is the survival of pathogens through the use of vesicular communication that generates the overall pathology observed in an infection.
