The SREB-State Doctoral Scholars program 2013 application is now open
with an application deadline of March 1, 2013. This program offers
fellowships to Ph.D. students (or those preparing to enter a Ph.D.
program) who are members of racial or ethnic minority groups,
including: African-American, Asian/Pacific Islander American,
Hispanic/Latino/Latin American, Native American, and others. Two types
of awards are offered:
(1) DOCTORAL AWARD - Three-to-Five-Year Package
You may apply for this award if you are within the first year of your
Ph.D. program or are expecting admission before the academic year
begins. You must be enrolled in or applying to a participating
institution in a participating state listed on this Web site. (See
Participating States and Institutions.)
The Doctoral Award offers three years of direct program support and two
years of institutional support from the scholar's college, university
and/or department, in the form of a $20,000 annual stipend. Each
recipient also is awarded up to five years of university-covered tuition
and fees (unless the institution prohibits a fee waiver). In addition,
the program provides professional development support and covers
expenses associated with attending the annual Compact for Faculty
Diversity Institute on Teaching and Mentoring.
(2) DISSERTATION AWARD - One-Year Package
You may apply for this award if you have completed all course work and
comprehensive/ preliminary exams and have defended (or will defend) the
dissertation prospectus successfully before the academic year begins.
You must be enrolled in a participating institution in a participating
state listed on this Web site. (See Participating States and Institutions.)
The Dissertation Award offers a one-year, $20,000 stipend,
university-covered tuition and fees (unless the institution prohibits a
fee waiver), a $500 research allowance and professional development
support. It also covers expenses associated with attending the annual
Compact for Faculty Diversity Institute on Teaching and Mentoring.
